Dude did a lot of films, Cocoon, Absence of Malice, The China Syndrome some of his better known. Had that "cranky guy" portrayal down pat. RIP.

As well as starring in the 1967 second world war war classic The Dirty Dozen as one of the eponymous gang, Lopez scored a transatlantic hit with "If I Had a Hammer" and designed a pair of sought-after guitar models for Gibson.

          • Not relevant to my American brothers, but Rick is one of the Top 10. Greatly influenced my life. He was my defensive coach and Aurelio was my offensive coach over 40 years ago.

In 2015, I wrote that we visited ND for the USC game. Rick asked us to light candles for him (just diagnosed with ALS) and Aurel. We all did and said our prayers at the Grotto and thanked the Almighty for having such exceptional coaches/teachers and friends.

God bless you Coach, thanks for all the lessons and RIP.

Cheers and as always, Go Irish!!

Dude was 78 and coaching all the way to the end. While he had "retired", he was still doing a lot on consultancy work for the Colts and several other teams. He loved his motorcycles. RIP Howard.

                              • Did anyone even know he was sick??? 42 is a big movie in our family,... my youngest was going to be a Jackie like how I’m named after Hank Aaron but that changed at the very last second. I still call her ‘J’ for her middle name tho,... anyway 42 is a big movie with us. This is shocking, no idea he was even sick.

                                    • I still haven't seen Black Panther (I'm super behind on MCU, I've only seen about 1/4 of the movies), but I've seen Boseman in his Avengers spots, on SNL, and various promotional appearances in recent years. He seemed like a very warn and kind individual, he died much too young.

Saw this from Golic Jr. earlier, got a little dusty at the end

But what many don’t know is our story began long before his historic turn as Black Panther. During the premiere party for Black Panther, Chadwick reminded me of something. He whispered that when I received my honorary degree from Howard University, his alma mater, he was the student assigned to escort me that day. And here we were, years later as friends and colleagues, enjoying the most glorious night ever! We’d spent weeks prepping, working, sitting next to each other every morning in makeup chairs, preparing for the day together as mother and son. I am honored that we enjoyed that full circle experience. This young man’s dedication was awe-inspiring, his smile contagious, his talent unreal. So I pay tribute to a beautiful spirit, a consummate artist, a soulful brother...”thou aren’t not dead but flown afar...”. All you possessed, Chadwick, you freely gave. Rest now, sweet prince.” #WakandaForever

A post shared by Angela Bassett (@im.angelabassett) on Aug 28, 2020 at 8:43pm PDT

This was WHILE he was dealing with a terminal diagnosis himself.

Damn, he was one tough SOB.

I saw Black Panther earlier this year. I really just started watching the Marvel movies, last year or so, and BP didn't resonate with me. I went in with low expectations and came out amazed at how regal he seemed in the role. It was a good movie, too.

The first news outlet I saw with the story of his passing was our local newspaper. I thought they got fooled by one of those fake-death websites. Cancer sucks.
