  • Mourinho back in Champions League. I have to admit, I like the idea of it.

    • Looks like Leicester is going to give it a go.

Everton and Manchester United still keeping their managers for now.

Reports that Pochettino had a clause in his contract where he has to wait to go to another club if and when he was sacked. Might be why no one has moved for him just yet.

          • Rangers were so desperate to have Morelos finally score against Celtic they had him take a PK in place of their usual PK guy and of course he fluffed it and Celtic held on to a 1-0 Scottish Cup win,... Celtics tenth straight domestic trophy
This sig will not change until The Browns win the Super Bowl... So get real used to it.

We'll talk in four weeks. Eight points ahead of Leicester is nothing when they don't have Europe.

Leicester play City, then Liverpool on Boxing Day later this month. That's going to be a major stretch for the title race.

Liverpool and The Green New Deal seem to be the only thing that can stop City from a Three Peat.

They have a tremendously long way to go as a team.

Magnificent performance from Liverpool today. Van Dijk, Keita, Henderson all superb. Back to back clean sheets with Henderson playing the 6.

Yesterday is the kind of game I expected out of Arsenal this year. Not perfect on D, but too talented up front to allow themselves to lose and draw as many times as they have in the league. It's too late for this season, and I don't expect Laca and Auba to stay now, but I do think the young talent is there. Up hill climb for sure, but they can make the right moves for the future...

                        • Red Bull Salzburg's Takumi Minamino will become a Liverpool player in January, subject to passing his medical.

Those two legs of the Champions League group stage, he was the player that impressed me in the first match at Anfield the most. Thus he was the guy I feared most on Tuesday when he had the ball.

Salzburg has a very good squad, but it looks like their two best players will be gone come January. If they were staying, I'd rate them to win Europa League.

Their manager is talking about how City playing their full lineup in the League Cup shows how much they respect United.

Bravo was in goal, Aguero sat and if you're a Liverpool fan you'd swear he sounds like Roy did with us.

So I'd say the answer is yes, they're going to the wilderness if they're not there already.

Eriksen wanted out this past summer. If you can get this money now rather than let him walk for free in June, you have to do it.

Inter are crazy for paying this much money for a cup tied player they can have for nothing in five more months. They must be gunning for the Scudetto since they're in distance of Juve for the first time in forever.

Didn't even look at him. 2 minutes later, 'pool takes the lead.

It's the only thing I watch where the midfield doesn't act like classical midfield at all. Attack doesn't come from foot-clever midfielders buffooning opponents with magic mostly down the center and then feeding strikers (as brilliantly illustrated by, say, DeBruyne-to-Aquero), but by wingbacks taking charge of midfield yardage and then finding super-clever strikers also at the wings (fed by them and Firmino --- the other utterly non-classic "9".)

Mane is perfect for this. He's so good getting the ball wide after opponents have already been stretched by Liverpool's wingbacks, he demands double hasty coverage and beats it anyway. Plus he's oddly strong, and fast, and willing to come all the way back to help Robertson's side. He's more willing to pass than Salah (who plays more like a selfish bent-to-the-right "9"), and he and BobbieF have great chemistry.

So what does Liverpool's midfield do? I have been glad to hear the commentators finally waking up to how different and uber-significant they are. This is NOT at all a typical midfield. It doesn't have to be DeBruyne-level (Modric, Silva, Iniesta et al) clever, nor borderline roughhouse dirty like some others (though Fabinho has a tinge of that.) Liverpool's midfield is Henderson and Wynaldum and Milner-like. They are made for whole game brave combat. They are the werewolves of what should become the modern game. They throw themselves at the ball wherever it's flying. (Sort of like Arturo Vidal when he's behaving himself.) "Work Rate"out of the Chart.

Someone asked USWNT team star Julie Ertz how she wanted to play. "Like a Calm Maniac," she said. THAT's Henderson and Wynaldum ... and Fabinho didn't get it at first, but is now on board. Firmino and Milner already had the genes for it. Mane has now got it too. (Salah doesn't.) People gushed over the signing of Nabi Keitha ("What a talent!") Well, yes --- but he DOESN'T get the needed Liverpool New Era Midfield style. Shakiri has tried but is largely lost running around ineffectively. Lallana gets it. Oxlaide-Chamberlain seems to WANT to do this, but doesn't (yet) have the Henderson/Wynaldum instinct. You could bring GREAT Old-Style midfield talent into Liverpool and actually severely hurt this team.

Mane and Firmino are the perfect forwards for this Chaos-creating team style. Feast off the midfield aggression's turnovers and the never-slow-down wingbacks pressures. Fury on the field from line to line and mostly in the opponents' side. And when the fury strikes, you need a finisher who both strikes and passes, because the rest of the Fast and Furious are still moving forward. Mane: Don't get hurt.

                                                                    Comment
