Surprised there's not more said on this board about this kid. He's quite possibly going to be our #1 QB from the class of 2010. CW has been in contact with him weekly, and a new article (premium) states that he's going to take an official visit early in the season, which always is a good sign. With Heaps out, it looks like Hinder and Montana are CW's top 2 QB targets for '10...

Agree about him being a top target. But I wonder if we get another QB commit first if he cancels the visit.

Yeah those two are definitely our top QB recruits at this point of the season. I really wish the staff would take a look at Ryan Kasdorf and Bryan Bennett out of California. I am completely confused as to why both players are being more heavily recruited.

Kasdorf doesn't have offers from any D-IA offers to my knowledge. not sure where Bennett plays.

I'm sure the staff is aware of Kasdorf, since he took over Crist's spot at Sherman Oaks.

Also posted this in a QB threads:

Kiss Hinder good-bye guys. He's going to commit in the next month or so, and he does have ND in his top 3, but he LOVES Cal. Loves, Tedford, the facilities, the education, the players, etc. Couldn't stop saying good things about that school. Wanted to commit last weekend but didn't want to make any rash decisions, and he wanted to visit a couple more schools just to make sure. But I haven't read anywhere where he has definite plans to visit ND in the next month, so I don't think we're that much of a player here, unfortunately...

Hinder committed to CAL over ND and UCLA. Other offers were SU NU ALA CU FSU KU KSU PIT PU UAZ ASU and CSU.

I just decided I wanted to get it over with. Once I did, it was the way to go for me. It just was the day. I said 'what am I waiting for? I need to get this done.

Reasons:

Legacy - His grandfather, Jim Hanifan, was an All-American for CAL in 1954 leading the nation in receiving, and coached at CAL 1970-'71. Hanifan's in CAL's Hall of Fame.
QB Coaching - Cal coach Tedford - "It's the way he puts things. I sat in a meeting with him and it's how he teaches his QBs such a complicated offense. He makes it easy. He's definitely a guy that can make a QB successful."
Glory/Education - "Cal is always a top 25 school. You have a chance to win a national championship while getting a great degree. Plus you get to play (USC).
Feel The Love - First Offer

Some Comparisons:

Weis has put 1 QB in the NFL; Tedford 5.
ND is 42-33-5 with one victory since 2001 (Weis 0-4 vs USC). CAL is 29-69-5 vs USC with one victory since 2001 (Tedford 1-6 vs USC).
Tedford's won 66% of his CAL games. Weis has won 58% of his games.
Recent Polls: CAL '04 #9, '05 #25, '06 #14; ND '05 #9, '06 #17. Neither team was ranked in '07 or '08
The rest of Football Glory to ND.
Education is competitive for the Student Body, U.S. News & World Reports Ranks ND #18 and CAL #21 an apparent push. Not so for Football players, the NCAA lists ND with a Graduation Success Rate (Football) of 94% and CAL with only 53%. The Federal Rate has ND at 85% and CAL at 45%.
Hinder was second QB offered by ND

Bottom Line:
He and Grandpa are both Bears

... Daft helped the Bears reel in one of their biggest commitments in years last week when Austin Hinder, ... but Daft's energy and excitement is one thing that helped sell Hinder.
"Coach Daft is awesome," Hinder said. "He gets really excited about Cal, and you can't help but feel the same way after talking to him. When I committed, both he and Coach Ludwig were on the phone hooting and hollering. It's that type of passion that made me want to be a Bear." Daft also has the Bears in on some of the top prospects in the Los Angeles area, including cornerback Joshua Shaw of Palmdale High and athlete Robert Woods of Gardena Junipero Serra. Shaw and Woods are among the best players in the state and rank among the top players at their positions nationally.

"hooting and hollering. It's that type of passion that made me ..."

Charlie, is it too late to have the Leprechaun call?

Hard to believe this Daft guy is more animated than "Get off the damn field" Polian.

Woods has an ND offer and Shaw is being evaluated for one.
