I’ve already recapped how our current group of ‘08 commitments did in this week’s HS football games (see here and here), but here’s a rundown of how the major uncommitted prospects ND has been seeking did this week (I couldn’t find anything on Ryan Williams - leave it in the comments if you know anything):

• Despite sitting out most of the second half with cramps, Carlton Thomas - who arrived at ND on Saturday for an official visit (a sighting was reported here) - had 285 yards rushing, including a 98-yard TD, as his Frostproof team defeated Victory Christian, 14-0. This followed up a 228-yard effort in his season opener
• Despite not even playing past the middle of the second quarter, Michael Floyd had three receptions for 77 yards and threw a 24-yard option pass on his team’s first play from scrimmage as his Cretin-Derham Hall team overwhelmed Forest Lake, 56-7.
• Jonathan Baldwin’s Aliquippa team lost to Ambridge, 36-26.
• Jeremy Brown’s Boone team defeated Lake Mary, 10-3.
• Trevor Robinson’s Elkhorn team defeated Beatrice, 35-28 in overtime.
• And Cyrus Gray’s DeSoto team defeated Ottawa, 38-22.

Here are the results from our current ‘08 commitments who played in Saturday games this weekend (the results from Friday’s games are below):

• TE commit Kyle Rudolph had four catches for 57 yards and two touchdowns, including a game-tying grab with 8:42 to go in regulation, as his Elder team moved to 1-1 on the season by defeating football giant Charlotte Independence (North Carolina), who had been ranked #3 nationally by USA Today, 41-34 in overtime in the Herbstreit Challenge (photos here). The loss ended Independence’s 109-game winning streak.
• DL commit Omar Hunter forced a fumble (see the first picture here) on a sack of the quarterback as his Buford team defeated Grove City (Pennsylvania), 34-7, also in the Herbstreit Challenge.
• S commit Dan McCarthy, who quarterbacks his high school team, ran 20 times for 130 yards, completed two passes for 43 yards, and scored three touchdowns - two rushing, on a 43-yard pass - as his Cardinal Mooney team defeated Gateway (Pennsylvania), 27-6, once again in the Herbstreit Challenge. Before the game, Gateway had been ranked #10 nationally by USA Today, and Mooney was at #25.
• Finally, DL commit Sean Cwynar’s Marian Central team defeated Stillman Valley, 41-19.

I should also mention that all of the Herbstreit Challenge games will be shown today - that’s Sunday - on the NFL Network. I’ll be back tomorrow with team-related news and recaps of the, err, postmortem from yesterday’s game.

Here’s a quick rundown of how our current group of commitments fared in their football games this week:

• John Goodman, who plays QB for his HS team, had 71 yards rushing on eight attempts and two touchdowns, as Bishop Dwenger defeated Northside, 43-3, to improve to 3-0. Up next: Northrop (0-3).
• David Pozluzny scored on a 26-yard touchdown run as his Hopewell team defeated Carrick, 48-14.
• Robert Blanton’s Butler team lost to Lackey, 47-0.
• Steve Filer’s Mt. Carmel team defeated St. Ignatius, 38-0.
• Darius Fleming’s St. Rita’s team defeated De La Salle, 38-15.
• Brandon Newman’s Pleasure Ridge Park team lost to Indianapolis Cathedral, 35-7.
• Braxston Cave’s Penn team defeated Marian, 47-7.
• Joseph Fauria’s Crespi team defeated Birmingham, 20-6 (more here). (Photos here and here.)
• Jamoris Slaughter’s Tucker team defeated Miller Grove, 43-0. Video is available here (the fourth clip in the leftmost column of the little grid of videos).
• The following players don’t have league games this week: Mike Golic, Jr., Anthony McDonald, Dayne Crist, Ethan Johnson, Hafis Williams, and Lane Clelland.
• The following players have games on Saturday: Sean Cwynar, Dan McCarthy, Kyle Rudolph, and Omar Hunter. I hope to be back tomorrow to review those results.
