I think it's important to know that movies are primarily a director's art and television is a writer's art. The benefit of these studios simply recycling unoriginal comics and remakes is that they 1) don't need great writers, so 2) they aren't paying for great writers.
As a result, a lot of the writers have gone to television. AMC, HBO, and Showtime have been benefiting from this. Even Quentin Tarantino has stated that he could see himself retiring from Hollywood (in disgust for what it has become) and writing seven-hour miniseries for HBO and just going that route; he already has all of the money he'll ever need and is a die-hard film maker who cares solely about the product.
My point is, there is a reason we are in the heyday of television right now. TV has never been better and a part of that is thanks to Hollywood's drive for profit over art, more artists have simply gone to television and I love it.

I will be going to see Lincoln, Django Unchained, and The Hobbit though. Those are guaranteed A+ movies. Argo, Looper, and The Master I have heard nothing but great things.
I'm a drama guy, and generally don't care for the action, but have heard great things about Skyfall and The Avengers. I am in the minority in that I didn't like The Dark Knights Rises at all, after absolutely loving The Dark Knight. Moonrise Kingdom isn't my cup of tea but I enjoyed it; Wes Anderson isn't one of my favorites.
I think I remember reading about how revenue goes up for movies during recessions, because families are taking fewer vacations and are spending their disposable income in theaters. I wonder if production companies are putting out more movies as a result.
