Notre Dame Football Season Tickets

Being advertised via radio, billboard, and now Facebook:

https://www.facebook.com/NDFootball/...39353879427485

I was always told that there was a ridiculous waiting list to get season tickets, and that the only way to jump the list was committing to huge donations.

Now, tickets appear to be readily available to anyone willing to pay the price.

How much of this is due to a decline in season ticket renewals?

How much is due to the increase in price, donation, and "service" fees, resulting in pricing previous holders out?

How much is due to a large number of the older folk moving into the new luxury boxes, leaving gaps in the regular seats?

The Facebook comments are... interesting.

It's also possible that they've simply decided to make more seats available for season ticket purchases, but the number of stories you hear about former season ticket holders (and long-time holders) not renewing seams to be higher than you would expect.

I'm getting the impression that a lot of older alumni like my dad and his friends are refusing to re-up out of principle until the administration fixes the on field product. The facebook comments seem to suggest this as well.

Think this comment hits the nail on the head:

Quote:
If the University, of which I am an Alum., was as passionate about putting a truly competitive team on the field as they are about squeezing every drop of revenue out of the history that was ND football, those excessive fees might almost be justifiable. As it stands, it is a slap in the face to alumns and fans.

Price Elasticity of Demand

We've weakened our schedule to the point that there are only one or two home games per year that anybody cares about. It's very easy to get tickets to seven individual games, and it's much cheaper than paying the University's absurd season ticket fees. It's gross.

As a side comment, I think it's pretty ****ty for alumni to drop their annual contributions to the University on the basis that "the football team sucks." That really shouldn't have anything to do with it.

Which is absurd to consider, when you realize that ND is much harder on themselves in terms of scheduling than they need to be, or at least in some regards.

It's not even a matter of difficulty. It's a matter of marketing. Notre Dame-Michigan is a bigger draw than Notre Dame-Georgia. Maybe not in terms of TV ratings, but definitely in terms of ticket appeal. But the ACC deal has shot that to ****.

Year A: Michigan, Stanford, Purdue, Army
Year B: Michigan State, USC, Boston College, Air Force

ETA: Glad to see the Facebook comments bashing the FieldTurf and video board, no italics. Crossroads is an abomination before the Lord (literally, as it turns out).
