Blessing in Disguise? - Notre Dame Football Discussion

With the reports, although they are from "unnamed sources," maybe it is a blessing in disguise for Notre Dame to not land Urban Meyer. The last coaching search was not exhaustive, and neither (if we landed Meyer) would this one have been.

Since we've already been given a black eye by the media, fans and the like, why not really complete an exhaustive coaching search? Bring in Tedford, bring in Dan Hawkins of Boise State, bring in Norm Chow, bring in Chuck Long, and one of my favorites, Bret Bielema, the D coordinator of Wisconsin.

The last thing we need to do is rush into something and be in the same place come three years from now.

I guess Meyer is going to take the Florida job, which I dont understand. He loves Notre Dame and said he would like to coach there, but flipped us for the damn Gators. Now I wonder what coach the administration will look at. I bet old Kevin White is pissed!!!!

I have to agree that the potential of losing Urban Meyer might be a blessing in disguise. Also, not mentioned in the previous post is Petrino from Louisville. Although he might not be a good fit personality wise for ND and also the scandal with Auburn. What we need most, in my humble opinion, with the exception of the obvious, is a coach that knows how to recruit. There are many good coaches out there, we just need to be patient so we don't get stuck with another O'Leary incident, and then end up with a subpar coach because we're going in to the most critical recruiting time of the year.

I guess you're right. I'll have to take that same approach since we didn't land our #1 guy.

Notre Dame's athletic administration is becoming a laughing stock. I'm finding it funny myself, to be quite honest. They can want anyone and everyone, but the guy is going to have to want to come here. They offered Meyer $1 Million and Gruden is getting $4 million right now. Take it from someone that negotiates salaries for a living...that won't happen. I don't care how much you covet a job or love a place, taking a paycut of $3 million? That's after school special material.

Bottom line: they're screwed again. Stoops and Saban will not budge. What a mess.

It's not a blessing. he wanted certain number of academic exceptions. Like holtz had ( tony rice,zorich) nd is not willing to allow the exceptions. we can't win a national championship with the talent were bringing in. i'm sorry to say, it's over at ND until they give a coach a few academic exceptions like holtz had. it's over.

kevin white and the presidents and what have you are a bunch of assholes. now its known to the entire country. what a joke man. as an irish fan i feel disgusted.
