Notre Dame

Weis=Genius

I would like to congratulate Charlie on what he has done for Notre Dame football, and would be one of the first to say that he deserves every last penny of this extension. Charlie Weis has completely flipped Notre Dame around, and turned the team into one that nobody wants to be playing. Has there been one other team this year that has had USC players doubting if they were going to win. People can say all that they want about Willingham not getting the same respect, but just as it has been stated before on this site, Ty did not deserve something like this. Weis has this team scoring more points on average than they have in years. This is something Ty can never say about his teams, and Ty did not have NFL teams trying to sway him to come to the NFL. People know what Charlie can do and they are being treated by having the chance to watch him resurrect the Irish program. Show me another coach that in his first press conference can say, oh and there is some team from California, and that we are going to beat them. Besides being one of the best coaches, he is also by far the classiest coach in all of the leagues. The only people that don't think that Weis deserved this extension, are people that hate Notre Dame and do not want to see its dominance in the next couple of years. And there are also the ignorant people that can't figure it out. So with all of this said, "Congratulations Charlie Weis! You have the Notre Dame faithful believing again." In the near future, I can see a lot of bandwagon fans jumping on this ship.

Who said no and why? What has he done not to earn this, do you want him going to the NFL? I sure as hell don't. So, who said no on the poll?

Well, I suspect the contract was warranted (and I said that it was), but I imagine those that said it wasn't either fell for the ESPN race-card or believed our schedule has proven far easier than first expected.

Teams like Tennessee, Purdue, and Pitt were all projected to have great years and have put up losing seasons; Syracuse, BYU, and MSU all appear to be pretty terrible (and MSU beat us); and Stanford and Navy should be nothing to be too concerned about now. Michigan may be a little better than people thought at the start of the season, and we played USC tight, but a 9-2 regular season performance is not really that astounding in retrospect.

Routinely scoring over 40 points a game, on the other hand, is astounding. And, despite the polemics, nobody knows two important factors regarding this contract: The actual value of his salary and the conditions of any 'outs' to be invoked by the relevant parties.

The ramifications of this contract, regardless of whether or not it was warranted, will be extreme. Salaries will go up at other schools-across the board-as a result of this action. And, if there is any justice, the Huskies should give their coach a 40-million 10-year deal too. (oh, please, oh, please, oh, please...)

It certainly covers Weis' contract, which would seem to indicate the deals worked in concert.

I also wonder what other colleges throughout the land think about this deal? I am sure they do not like it.

Will the Weis Contract will start to change the market even more in favor of the bargaining coaches?

If the contract terms and amounts increase (generally), does the college market start to compete more with the NFL market?
