Greetings, I have just recently rediscovered Stephen Crane, and a wealth of his short stories. One, the Monster, about all kinds of societal issues, including race relations, is about a 100 years before it's time. Spooky insightful! I understand Crane had a big influence on Ernest. Hope you are well.

I would really like to read it. Let me know. I am working on a few things. My problem always has been focus. That is why I could write tech articles and instructions, and not what I really enjoyed! Good luck, good living and have a good weekend!

By the way, trying to write to that standard is helping me find my voice. I owe it to you!

I was talking about Hammett and The Maltese Falcon. Amazing book. No internal dialogue at all. The Old Man and the Sea is a great book. I'm a big fan of his short stories (Hemingway). Exactly! Hamett had writing the modern murder mystery down, before it ever became the genre that it is! I liked his development of Nick and Nora Charles, too. One novel, 2,700 movies; that should say something! I agree with your assessment of Hemingway's short stories, of which I always considered Old Man And The Sea his longest, in novel form, LOL.

If you are talking Hammett his depth and breadth of characters for his time and genre was stupendous. I have to agreee with you! Hemingway, he is above my top ten cut, hovering somewhere with James Joyce. A Farewell to Arms was what I first read, but I really liked the simple power of Old Man and the Sea. I liked it so much I could never even watch the movie, with or without Spencer Tracy. I was always attracted to Ernest's dark side.
