| Chicago Rhetoric | Illlinois has a running clock rule once it hits a 5 TD lead. The clock continues to run unless someone calls timeout. I think as coaches you do need to be careful that you don't humiliate kids, but suspending them? Not good. This is where our sports culture is headed. Everyone plays, everyone wins. |

I like this as compared to the Connecticut rule. Great idea Albuquerque. I don't get this rule. What are teams supposed to do? If the team that is getting blown out loses the ball on downs on their own 10 yard line, what is the other team supposed to do, punt on first down on the opposing 10 yard line? What if the blown out team fumbles the ball on the 5 yard line or has the ball intercepted and the team up by 45 has the ball, what should they do, hand the ball back to the blown out team? What is this teaching our kids? I always hated when in little league basketball, the coach of a team that was up by alot of points would have his defense stand there with their hands behind their backs to let the losing team score. Or, in T-ball, a coach would have his players field the ball and not try to throw the runner out at 1st. It's demoralizing and is sending the youth of today the wrong message. As a young athlete, I would have rather have gotten slaughtered and learn what I had to do to improve my game or at the very least compete with the players that beat us the previous time than know that someone let me score or was holding back and not giving it their all. | |
