Thanks everyone for welcoming me so kindly into your domain. It's nice to be able to talk with people who can think freely for themselves and notice trends that many often overlook. The Vince Young and Shark reference was right on the money and I think perceptions are starting to change. The emergence of Jeff and Zibby (ND) and Vince have shed new light on this issue and maybe will open more eyes in the future. All I want is open competition and let the best man win. No matter what position and what color!
Thanks again.

A lot of racist sentiments in this thread. What if I were to say, "Look how many black head coaches there are in NCAA" or "Look how many black QB's have won the Super Bowl" and then throw in "What does that tell you?" I would get indignant responses, be called a racist (correctly) and someone might even point out that it tells me that blacks have not had the opportunities they deserve, because they're black; well, so it is with whites at running back, wide receiver, and in the defensive backfield. Heaven help any white guy who wants to be a running back, not a fullback, or a corner, not a safety, or a deep threat at wideout, and not a possession receiver. For racist reasons, he'll never get the chance. Samardzija will go to the NFL and be pigeon holed as a possession receiver, just because he's white.

I don't think you should be throwing around the word when I didn't get that impression from anyone. I think they were simply stating that many individuals don't get the opportunity to play where they want.

I pulled these posts out because I think our newest recruit deserves his own thread without racial overtones in it. However, I also believe this topic is well deserved, so if you want to continue the discussions, please do so.

Just remember to do so with logic and statistical evidence.

A white running back hasn't led the NFL in rushing since Green Bay's Jim Taylor ran for 1,474 yards in 1962 or been drafted in the first round since Penn State's John Cappelletti was chosen 11th overall by the Rams in 1974.
The last white running back I can remember in the last 10 years was Travis Jervey on the Green Bay Packers but he really only stood out on special teams. I believe that since 2004, there hasn't been a white running back on an NFL active roster. I'm pretty sure that is what I remember reading.

Draw your own conclusions.

This post, as I read it, says that blacks are faster, ie "better athletes" than whites. If it means something else, please say what.

New York Mets Pittsburgh Steelers

So because he's white he should play linebacker. And D. Jones should play WR because he's black. You can count the number of successful black drop back passers one hand. Doug Williams, Warren Moon, and to a lesser extent Steve McNair, and Donavan McNabb (though some would argue that his success has diminished as he has run less).

I think we should base a players position by hair color. It as abitrary as race without any of that ugly racist stuff.

No offense but putting a guy at position based on race is flat out stupid.

I stay out of race discussions, so I'm sticking to football on this one:

He's playing defense, probably linebacker. Just my football mind thinking out loud here.
