SALEM, Oregon, June 4, 2008 (LifeSiteNews.com) - Lung cancer patient, Barbara Wagner, was recently notified that her oncologist-prescribed medication that would slow the growth of cancer would not be covered by the Oregon Health Plan; the plan, however, she was informed, would cover doctor-assisted suicide should she wish to kill herself. Oregon Offers to Pay to Kill, but Not to Treat Cancer Patient Since the spread of his prostate cancer, 53-year-old Randy Stroup of Dexter, Ore., has been in a fight for his life. Uninsured and unable to pay for expensive chemotherapy, he applied to Oregon's state-run health plan for help. Lane Individual Practice Association (LIPA), which administers the Oregon Health Plan in Lane County, responded to Stroup's request with a letter saying the state would not cover Stroup's pricey treatment, but would pay for the cost of physician-assisted suicide. FOXNews.com - Oregon Offers Terminal Patients Doctor-Assisted Suicide Instead of Medical Care - America's Future is this not crazy? I can't beLIEve that this is actually going on in America. The semi good news is that in both those stories the state decided to go ahead and give them the chemo treatments. jn |

While I support a person's right to choose the ending of their life under certain circumstances, I think it shouldn't be the only option. Oregon's new state slogan is... "Oregon -- Doing our part in the fight against over-population." Do you have to have a medical issue to apply for the doctor assisted suicide, or do you just need to have the deisre to die?
