So about a half an hour ago I leave my parents house with my girlfriend and we are headed back to her place... we take separate cars and I stop at subway on the way to pick up dinner... I of course am wearing my usual casual gear... a blue "ND" hat and a grey shirt that simply says "Notre dame"... I notice while my sandwiches are being put together that the fellow at the register has a very pronounced limp as he walks around waiting for me to check out he often eyes me hard... at the time I think, "Is this guy gay?? If he is I suppose I can't blame him..."  So I finally get to paying for my food, I hand him my credit card and he asks me, "So we have a die hard huh?" I'm so used to wearing ND gear it actually takes me a moment to realize what he is taking about... After a beat I respond "Oh!... yeah life long blue and gold baby. Go Irish" He doesn't respond and seems to tense up when I say this so I think to myself, maybe he's a Bruin fan? ... So respecting the best school in Southern Cal I say in a tone that cries out I won't talk shit, I come in peace I ask, "You a UCLA fan?" He laughs and says simply, "No." At this point it hits me, There is only one other option with this clown after a moment of deliberation I ask, "You a college football fan?" He nods and says, "Yep, big USC fan, much better than Notre Dame these days wouldn't you agree?" I immediately think to myself, This f**king guy?!? After the weekend his boys had?? Before I can respond out loud he follows up with, " But we got spanked by Stanford this weekend" I thought right away that only a bandwagon USC fan would call a one point loss a spanking... then he says "Your boys finally won, about time I think... But don't worry Notre Dame will turn it around at some point it's only been how many years already?? At least you had Stanford this weekend." I say, "Yeah that Stanford game was God intervening... It's been great watching all these band wagon fans eat it." The USC gimp then goes on, trying full well to talk shit to a customer while still on the clock "Well at least you guys finally won a game... I was getting worried there... wouldn't look as good for us when we hammer you guys later on this year if you never beat anyone." At this point I just smile and say in my mind, this clown has it coming and the second he hands me my credit card I respond with this I say this... In full Sam Jackson YOU SHALL KNOW MY NAME IS THE LORD mode I say... "You know there are two key differences between Notre Dame and USC... you want to know what those are??.... First, Notre Dame has a thing called tact... tact is a University that is willing to lose the right way rather than risk the schools own integrity for a football game... USC will win the wrong way a thousand times before they ever realize what a real private school is... all the while Notre Dame will still hold an insurmountable lead in the all time series with SC... and you want to know the second difference is??" At this point he glares at me feeling full well that the punch line is coming... and you know I let him wait for it before I put him out of his misery... "The second reason is this... plain and simple... Notre Dame can beat Stanford at home." I then grabbed my food and walked out the door without another word... GO IRISH!!!
