beginning of the end for me

Look. I haven't been on this site for terribly long, nor do I really contribute a whole lot of inside information. However, I feel like I need to say something about everything that's going on.

I was a regular contributor before things went downhill, and I am no longer. The thing is, it's no longer enjoyable to post here. I mean, damn, it used to be that every post would have something interesting to add to the conversation. Even if it was an argument, everyone worth their salt would have something intelligent to offer. Maybe the 25 post limit brought out all the mouthbreathers. Maybe IE just got too big for it's own good. But you'll notice, all the old guard has moved out and a new guard has moved in. Most of the people that have high post counts rarely post here anymore. And it's because the new big men on campus just aren't as good.

To everyone who thinks Svo betrayed them, or Jigga is a turncoat, or they should start their own IrishEnvy where everything will be so much better: You'll notice that few, if any, threads are locked on this board (which was the weirdest thing when I first got here). Few, if any, people are banned, and if they are, it's for a damn good reason. The board is self-maintained. That means it's YOU doing this to yourselves. Starting a new board with everyone here is going to result in the same damn thing, devoted administrator or not. There just isn't the community there used to be. The loss of an admin doesn't do a whole lot when the admin doesn't exercise his powers often, and the reason the board has gone to shit is because of the people here, not svo leaving. And those who payed for a varsity membership are getting all of the benefits they got before. It's just that svo isn't adding his knowledge, and you don't get content from jigga anymore, which everyone got for free anyway. And that's why people are so frustrated now. They were leaching off of the core of the community, and the core of the community went elsewhere. Now all the hangers-on are left without anyone to bring thought to the discussion.

So a round of high-fives, everyone. You'll all be fine at your new IrishEnvy, with your mods and all your cool friends. It'll be sweet! At least you won't be whining about everything you thought you deserved anymore.

As of tonight, it's looking like things may be back on the right track. The new owner is deligating more mod powers, and there's now some light at the end of the tunnel.

not to be a complete jackass here, but seeing individual threads about the same thing isn't helping. it's annoying to see a new "IE going downhill" thread or a "my last post" thread everytime i come here.

that's the thing. mod powers have nothing to do with it. this community, as of a month ago, never locked a thread and barely ever banned people. The people I've heard of getting banned i can count on one hand. It's just that there aren't the people with the insight that the old crew used to have.

I don't mean to be bashing the people who've been posting lots recently... but they're just not as interesting. Maybe it's just me, and maybe it's just never going to be the same for me. But that's how I see it. Anyway, probably no need to pay attention to this since I barely post here anymore anyway.

I feel you. I also get the feeling that the new owner is just handing out mod powers to random people. We've got our new admin, the Spartan fan and our new mod, the guy who has been here two months. No offense guys, it's just not the same.

None taken. I'm asked if I could help out in anyway and was given what I was given.

I've been on a few forums that have gone through changes of staff and with each change is a exodus of many veteran members and the emergence of new posters, and that's just how it is. Nobody is gonna hold it against you if you feel the need to leave.

The reason I agreed to take the position is because I rarely run across a site that has so much apparent time, effort, and money invested into it as IrishEnvy and I couldn't stand seeing that go to waste. So I stepped in to reduce the clutter and chaos and try to restore and rebuild upon what is left after the dust has settled.

And it started not being the same when Svo was put in the position where he had to sell the site.

This is absolutely right. Locking threads and banning members or not, I can remember the almost IMMEDIATE chaos that ensued within a few days of Svo's disappearance. It might well take the new admin/mods some time to become as good at all this as he was, but it's certainly better than the current insanity. I hope at least a few of you "old folks" stay around to help us get things running once again; if not, peace.
