In the Penn State - Florida State bowl game, did either team use the 3-4 consistently?

I wish I could have taped that game, I think it was the greatest defensive battle I've ever seen. Anyway, I think both teams presented a model for what our defense should be in the future. Namely, speed everywhere.

Why do you think we are having such a hard time getting DT's? You would think that with Weis building an elite program again, and the recruits obviously seeing this, they would want to come and play for great coaches. I don't understand the reluctance to become Irish, unless the kid grew up a fan of a differnet team, etc. Any opinion?
I know this question wasn't directed toward me, but I just think it's bad luck. Unlike say, receiver, I don't think your game-plan makes much of an impact on defensive tackles.

So really, they completely control their own destiny and with elite tackles, there are practically 0 selling points, because if they are truly 'elite' they can get playing time anywhere and everywhere. So it's just a matter of whether they like the school or not.

We have really bad luck this year because the two top defensive tackles on our board have absolutely no loyalty to a state school; Austin because he's from DC and Barksdale hasn't talked up Michigan.

The only real mistake Weis & Co. have made in the past year was in not focusing enough attention on Butch Lewis and I blame that entirely on Gerald McCoy being a dick by not telling the coaching staff about his future at Oklahoma until it was too late. These kids are offered in the spring and summer before their senior year, they have absolutely no excuse to not have made up their mind until February. McCoy knew where he was going long before then, I'm certain.

I've been saying this for a long time. Thats why I think the staff isn't too concerned with not getting a big time dt. Thats why they only went after mccoy real hard last year and will probably do the same with Austing this year. One huge dt and a bunch of versatile tough players around him who can play several positions. I don't know if it will work at the college level but it can't be much worse than the d we had last year.

We will see.

I wish I had an answer. The truth is, I really don't know.

You have to be excited to play for a defense/defensive coordinator. I know Trevor Laws and Landri were pretty highly touted guys, but think back to Bryant Young.

Who have we seen at DT for ND that has been a standout footbal player at the position? Oliver Gibson?

Brian Hamilton, Oliver Gibson, depends on where you line up Grasmanis; I would say those 3 stood out.
