Lightbulb ND now in top 12 for talent...

ND's Rival rating is now 7527 (up from 5603) for the last
four years of scholarship recruiting. This number, on a
yearly basis, determines team recruiting rankings. The
cumulative number pretty much covers a team's roster of
scholarship talent.

Before you take me to task, it does not include fifth yr,
drop outs or transfers. Such changes, fairly common, tend
to cancel out whene viewed from a 117 team Div 1 database.

USC's actualy number is 10722. It was too large for the
data column...Tom

Lightbulb USC's talent is at a peak, but...

Two things must be considered. First, Rival's talent numbers
sometimes showed a 50%(+/-) kinship to end of season stats
for win percentages, margins of victory, game yardage, etc.
That is not bad when you consider that the numbers are a
judgement call by the Rival's staff and it held up with team
performance stats. It also implies that the coaching factor
is 50% more or less.

Second, you can only put so much talent on the field. The
rest is benched. Granted, USC's bench talent equals ND's
starting talent, the benefit is always have fresh talent
avaible. What USC talent starts is thus not as impressive
as the 10722 implies...Tom

even southern cal is vulnerable when it comes to the experience level of their starters, for instance this year they have a totally new oline and a new qb, i wouldnt be surprised to see them lose 3 games this year since they play ohio st

I wouldn't be too surprised if they take tOSU to task this year. Yeah, tOSU has a ton of talent, but, Southern Cal does as well, not to mention, they threw Butch Lewis in at OT last year against us from his DL spot, and it didn't seem to hurt them a whole hell of a lot.

butch lewis hasnt played a down at defensive tackle for southern cal, he's been an offensive tackle since he landed in south central, he is very talented but the bottom line is that the majority of the line hasnt played together as a unit in a game yet. I expect Ohio St to put a ton of pressure on sanchez and on offense run beanie wells right through the middle of the sedrick ellis-less offensive line. expect a low scoring 21-17 type game

ND ahead of Ohio St is interesting. We may be more concentrated in the three classes, while their recruiting is more evenly spread out. Also, Alabama at #7may be the result of 140 LOIs in 5 yrs? Numbers.
