Kates & Mates at McDevitt

Bishop McDevitt (Harrisburg, PA) is the class of PA large-school FB. They also figure heavily in the national rankings. This is mostly b/c of 3 big-time D1 recruits. DL Jason Kates was recently offered by ND and is so far impressed. If QB Jeremy Ricker has been offered by eveyone than RB LeSean McCoy has offers from everyone on the planet!! He is the reigning AAAA (large school) Player of the Yr.

I have had the impression that ND is not recuiting him (and surmised it must be grades). He has stated that some schools like Notre Dame, it’s hard to even talk to head coach. “I don’t why, but I want to be able to just talk to the coach, relate to them and know that if I have a question, he’s just available.”

Anyone with info, please share. I know that we just got RB Prince and Aldridge verbals, which are great, but I want to be greedy. I'm pretty sure that CW has just/ or is about to visit McDevitt to see Kates and just wondering....

I think Weis and Co. are just getting started. I think by the time that the Pitt game rolls around, they could have 15 verbals. Maybe more.

When the DBs and O-Linemen start rolling in, then I'll feel better. But so far, so great.

They will. Now that they are seeing the offensive assemblance weis is bringing in, these defensive guys will start jumping on board.

I am following the recruiting of the linemen and DBs very closely. I think receiver will also be a huge spot for ND to try and fill. Winning this fall will be a huge selling point. With the talent ND has, I think 8-3 or better would be mostly on coaching as opposed to talent. Right now, South Bend is a place where you can go in and play pretty quickly.

you know, i'm probably overly optimistic, but i don't think 8 wins this year is too much of a stretch. all C-Dub has to do is something that Willingham never could do - win the games you'd expect to win.

if we can do that, we'll beat michigan state, washington, byu, navy, syracuse, and stanford. that's 6 wins already.

of the remaining teams - pitt, purdue, michigan, tennessee, and southern cal - we'd need to win just 2 out of 5 games to make it to an 8-3 record. i don't think that's unrealistic. difficult? yes, but not unrealistic.

i know everyone here is hedging their optimism about the schedule this year because we've been burned by the past couple coaches where our expectations have exceeded their coaching abilities. but i just can't help but be optimistic that C-Dub can improve upon last year by another 2 wins, especially considering how HORRIBLY they were coached.

we hear all the time about the need for playmakers on the field that have so much of an impact on the outcome of the game. i think the biggest "playmaker" we picked up this year is C-Dub himself, and i believe that his presence on the sidelines will have a direct impact on the way we finish games this season. keep in mind that, as poor as we played last season, we were only a handful of points away from being a 9 win team.

Well, according to this guy Notre Dame doesn't have a chance. Check out this quote and then check out the link. Apparently he has overlooked the numerous superbowl rings Weis has and the fact that Lou didn't seem to have much difficulty with the academic standards.

Notre Dame will be bad again this season despite hiring respected Patriots offensive coordinator Charlie Weis as its new head coach

“Weis won’t turn it around,” Lang said. “He doesn’t have anything. The only way it can happen is if Notre Dame compromises its academic standards. That’s the only way.”

yeah...i couldn't care less what a guy like this says. oddsmaking and handicapping are a shell game designed specifically to make money for those in the business. and so-called "professional handicappers" have zero credibility in my book. oddsmaking has nothing to do with objective sports analysis - it's about balancing the betting for either team in a way that allows the bookies to make money regardless of who wins.
