The diff btw now and 2003...

is that in 2003, we had 1 great recruiting class and it seems after that Ty rested on his laurels and didn't recruit....at all the following years. Now we are in 2007 and Weis is putting together his 3rd straight strong class. It took those 2003 recruits 2 full years of seasoning to flourish...It happend to be the same year that CW arrived. When BQ, JS, and co. came alive. Now that had a lot 2 do with coaching but it also had a lot 2 do with experience. I know its hard as an ND fanbase expecting greatness every year but we will all be rewarded for years to come because of CW and his staff relentless recruiting efforts. They never take a day off. I am proud to have the staff that we have who are getting us the necessary talent to compete with the Floridas and USC's of the world. This is going to be our 3rd straight top 10 class, not just 1 like in 2003. Now I know rankings aren't everything but its a good indicator. With that said, if CW can't develop these players and get the best out of them the next couple of years, then I think we have a problem. But right now, I will take the bad and look forward to the good.

The other potential difference - more on this soon in a blog post I'm writing - is that in 2003 the team quit on Willingham at the end of the year. A big question for Weis is whether he can keep these guys from doing the same; as I've argued elsewhere, the fact that recruits who attended the SC game are so excited suggests to me that at least a significant group of (young) players definitely hasn't done that. But the next four games are a big barometer, IMO - not just in terms of wins and losses, but attitude, aggressiveness, etc.

Agreed. These next 4 games should be a good indicator but with guys like Laws, Kuntz, and Zibby, I just don't see this team quitting.
