Next Coach as well as some rumors

Ok Down to 4 of our top choices as Tedford signs extension with Cal.

1. Bobby Petrino
2. Dan Hawkins
3. Charles Weis
4. Butch Davis (Said he wants to take break so probably wont get him)

I heard a rumor that Lou Holtz will coach the '05 season so that we can get Butch Davis in '06.

I also heard Kent Baer will coach us if we win our bowl game and dont have a different coach hired.

I also heard Ron Turner (Illini 3-8) would be interested in ND.

I heard Ty willingham was fired so that he could get 2 paychecks (one from ND and one from Washington)

What r your thoughts

Next Coach

ESPN has written on their website that Dan Hawkins has already signed a contract extension with Boise State. I don't know if this is in stone, but it seems like he may be out of the running.

Are there any other articles that mention Jim Fassel as being interested. I read the Chicago Tribune and San Francisco chronicle both reported he would be interested in taking the job, which seems to me would really help recruiting. Most players want mostly to go the NFL so maybe a name like Fassel would be a blessing

I say if we can't get Fassel, we go after Weis, Wannstedt, and Petrino (in that order). I think Lou is too old and would worry about ruining the legacy if he retuned. In addition, it is being reported down here in South Carolina that Lou has remained on the USC coaching staff for next year to help with recruiting and administrative stuff.

Are we ever going to get a coach- time seems to me to be working against us and recruits are probably dropping like flies.

let's look at this rationally........
Bobby Petrino? After the Auburn fiasco, fuggaddaboudit.
Dave Wannstat? L-O-S-E-R
Butch Davis? Tainted cause he coached at Miami
l
ook at all the names that said no....
Bob Stoops, Urban Meyer, Dan Hawkins, Kirk Ferentz, Jim Fassel, Chucky Gruden, Steve Mariucci, Jeff Tedford

Now lets look at some actual candidates
Charlie Weis...ND Alumn, god offensive guy
Tom Clements....Offensive guy, knows how to win at ND, backed by Joe Montana and Dave Duerson, Ulumn.
Mike Ditka... probably not a candidate, but a hard nosed guy chat could probably get recruits to come back to ND...also, a diciplinarian, so the teams' noses will be in the books
My guess would be to go with Tom Clements. He's a longshot, but so is everyone else. Let's keep it in the ND Family this time around.

Actually on ESPN it said he has been offered an extension but has not taken it yet - because he is interested in going to a different school. (ND he said was one of the other schools)

Charlie Weis. Give him the job already. He's known as a great teacher and play caller. Two things that will help him recruit. He also knows how to win, and what it will takes to get a kid to the NFL. Two things that will play well with recruits. Plus the whole Super Bowl Champion Patriots line, wont hurt.

He is credited with the development of Brady... I'd like to see what he can do with our Brady.

I just think he's what we need. A good coach who loves ND. Its easier to sell a product you believe in, and he believe's in ND. Give the man the job.
