McKnight, ND's leading receiver the last two seasons, sustained a knee injury on a pass play during the second quarter of the 17-10 victory at Michigan. Either Jeff ''Scarecrow'' Samardzija or tynamo Matt Shelton would move into the starting lineup if McKnight can't play against Michigan State on Saturday. Also hurting is tight end Anthony Fasano (shoulder), an essential to Weis' Wee Patriots offense. And, deepest Irish backstagers are now saying that the varsity career of freshman reserve quarterback Dan Gorski is possibly over before it had a chance to begin because of back problems. *Michigan State has piled up huge numbers, including an average 592 yards of total offense per game -- second in the nation behind Texas Tech. Quarterback Drew Stanton has completed 78 percent of his passes. Curious on Mcknight. My guess is he's out for minimum 2 weeks and more if there is tearing involved in the ligaments. Wasn't really aware that Fasano's shoulder was a concern, but apparently it is. Anybody have any further details on that? Not too sure what to think about Gorski's deal. I guess it might be good in the fact that Jones and/or Frazer will be playing much sooner. Not concerned about Stanton. Our D will shut him down. |

| Starter | Fasano walked off holding his left arm but I believe he returned to the game. In his press conference Weis commented on McKnight and said there were other "bumps and bruises". TE is one of the few positions with adequate depth and experience. Last year Carlson had 30 minutes of PT with 191 Special Teams appearances while Freeman had 75 minutes of PT and 48 ST plays. Carlson is an inch taller than Fasano. Freeman is 3 inches shorter. |
