I agree that ND has a bright future at RB with the likes of Hughes and Allen but I don't see that being a problem for Jimmy. If anything, I think JC wants a strong running game, this opens up his passing lanes and the ability to fool defenses on play-action...

For as much as he gets the 'pretty boy' tag he seems to be anything but a primadonna. I think we are going to slide into the USuCk-esque position where bringing in talented freshman is the norm, as is them not seeing the field for a while. I hear what you are saying about our running game, but as long as Weis is the coach he will be a 50/50 run/pass coach (yea i know it seems arbitrary but I'd rather have that than an Arkansas or Hawaii gimmick offense). Thus we won't have to worry about recruiting either position since we will be scoring with both.

Quinn sort of had an advantage in our lack of a running game because (in my opinion) it suited his skill set better. But I don't think we are going to change our QB recruiting or playing based on the success of our running game. We have real talent in the backfield, but Weis really does pride himself on his experience with QBs and I think as we keep developing them we will keep bringing in the best of the best (Miramar U (spelling?)).

Long post, shortened - Jimmy is going to have plenty of opportunities to show that development. He is a team player, and has now been through the worst of what he will see in college ball. Crist will have his time, but it will be once Jimmy is done with his.

Agreed 100% bro, we have got to realize that not many frosh can just come in and beat the likes of Mich and USC not matter how bad we want them to. JC showed me legit progression today and it bodes well for next season. If we don't have at least 7 wins next season with a whole year knowin who our QB is under Weis than I think there needs to be a change...but it won't happen cuz I seriously do think next years team will suprise just like the 02 team did...but we will see. I would hate to jinx them!!

"The pedestal" is where a lot of people have had JC since last January.

Basically, what worries me about the equation is WEIS. Right now, the unit that has the most promise on this team is the RB corp. Given that the O line is still in the starting blocks, the emphasis for 2008 OUGHT to be developing the offense leading with the RUNNING game. I worry that Weis will fall in love with "developing" another all-world QB in Clausen, or Crist for that matter, at the expense of what the TEAM obviously needs, an O line that can knoack people down, and an RB corp that can get us out of the innumerable GD third and looongs we've sufferred through all year.

Wow. Impressive thought processes going on here.

But some of that also depends on CW giving up on the idea that he is a master schemer who will focus on his choice of QB to carry out CW's imagined offensive passing game, and all other facets of the team be damned. CW will have to grow as a coach. Big time.

Hopefully, Papa Clausen wants his son to fight for his position. So far, I think JC is one hell of a fighter.

Let the competition begin.
