ND's "Portfolio Strength"

A quick perusal of www.und.com reveals:

Hockey: #1
Women's Lax: #5
Men's Indoor Track: BE Champs
Men's Tennis: #9
Men's Fencing: #5
Women's Fencing: #4
Men's Lax: #11

Not to mention strong performances in the Fall by our soccer teams, top 20 finish in men's CC, a BCS bid from football, and potential NCAA bid for Men's and Women's basketball.

While it is entirely legitimate to expect more from football and basketball, I think it is worthwhile to mention that Notre Dame is becoming a power across the board.

Given that "The University of Notre Dame’s institutional mission is to attain the highest standards of excellence in teaching, scholarship, and selected fields of research in a community of learning where truth is seen to be informed by belief and where, specifically, the Catholic faith and intellectual tradition are celebrated and lived," it's clear that the mission of seeking excellence is extending to all the sports.

Cincinnati Reds Detroit Pistons Notre Dame

I think in a lot of those sports, they have been for a while. Women's soccer has been very good since the early 90s, fencing is always very good, the men's LAX team has been good for some time. They just don't get noticed.

But it is wonderful to see the Irish excelling in so many things.

heck, a bunch of the lights on the #1 are burned out from having been on all fall and now being on again.
