Post Bielema, Fitzgerald invade the Big Ten's old guard of head coaches (Gazette Extra Sports)

CHICAGO-Wisconsin's Bret Bielema and Northwestern's Pat Fitzgerald aren't just the youngest and newest head football coaches in the Big Ten. They're also the youngest head coaches in all of Division I-A.

I feel kinda bad for Pat Fitzgerald. Walker always wanted him to succeed him...but a few years down the road. He never got the career coaching he planned on.

I can only wish this guy the very best...he's in a tough spot. He's at a great school though and its clear they have faith in him. It may not turn out well, but I will give NU credit for taking the risk.

Heads up on the part of both of these schools for giving young assistants a chance as opposed to recycled trash. Sometimes it is better to promote from within and I think in both of these cases that is the case.
