WTF???????? Have I been living under a rock?????

That game (the 1/06 Fiesta Bowl) would represent Notre Dame's last foreseeable chance to receive such a generous payout ($14.3MM), as adjusted BCS rules next season guarantee the University $4.5MM when it plays in a BCS game and $1.3MM in seasons when it does not, according to the BCS Web site. With the number of BCS games increasing to five for the 2006-07 season, Notre Dame will be guaranteed an at-large bid if it is ranked eighth or better in the final BCS standings - unlike this season, which requires the Irish to rank at least sixth to receive an automatic BCS bid. Currently, the Irish are eligible for - but not guaranteed - an at-large bid because at No. 8 they rank higher than the required No. 12 and have earned nine wins.

This is first I've heard about this!!!! This is the Big 6 conferences trying to pressure us BIG TIME to join one of them, as they've effectively slashed our potential payout by upwards of 90% to current contracts.

HOWEVER, if you look further, it's acutally GREAT INCENTIVE TO STAY INDEPENDENT. Why join a conference and have scheduling tie ups when we can stay independent, enjoy scheduling freedom.......Especially if we're going to effectively have our money 'stolen' from us under the new contract.....(i.e. $14.3MM split 11 ways = $1.3MM per team....
