18 certainly has the potential to be one of the best classes ever if we keep landing top 247 recruits and maybe another 5 star or two. It's all relative though. Some classes have higher star power but it's more about filling our positional needs like DB's last year for instance. A #1 - 5 star QB and four 4 star top 247 recruits to boot to kick things off makes me very optimistic though.
Go Irish!

So BVG told him we'd offer if he didn't play baseball. Now he isn't gonna play baseball. I really like our chances here.

So why does Saban get praised for his NFL defensive schemes and how difficult it is why BVG's gets ridiculed for his being too difficult and NFL like?

Because Notre Dame fans are a bitter bunch. However, there are many factors that play into the fact of Bama having more success.

A. Alabama gets the nation's top recruits on the defensive side of the football each year. Talent takes over at points and wins games.

B. Alabama has had their share of trouble stopping teams. I would take their defense over ND's, but lets not act like the are some defense that teams can't score on. They get and force turnovers, which is the biggest difference in comparing Notre Dame Alabama's defense in my opinion. They gave up 37 to Ole Miss and 40 to Clemson last year.

Alabama forced 27 turnovers last fall, while Notre Dame forced 14.

C. The time at Alabama is spent differently. Yes, Alabama is easier on the school side, but they are recruiting a different kid than Notre Dame. Notre Dame kids understand there is life after football and a guy like Max Redfield I am sure loves and cares about football, but he also knows he is going to be successful regardless of if he makes the league.

Alabama...you're not going there for a degree or networking. You are going there to make the NFL and if you can't pick up the defense, then you're not going to play and you're not going to that money you dreamed of.

D. Alabama doesn't play a ton of freshmen. They let their kids get in the system and learn it. Notre Dame fans need to realize that a kid like Josh Barajas/Asmar Bilal isn't a bad player because they didnt play as a freshmen. I think ND fans are really hard on saying a kid is a bust after just a few years, when it takes time to play at a high level in college, esp when they aren't getting the elite players in the country.
