Top 10 defense, IF, and thats a big IF our offense keeps our defense from having to play the whole game, which it hasnt proven to be able to do yet (see last year). Our defense was solid most of the games (except USC) in the first half, but got generally demolished in the second half do to being on the field the whole game. As long as our offense has improved, the defense will see dramatic improvement. The best offense is a good defense, and vise versa.

i am a huge fan and think ND will be much better this year. but anyone who expects a top 10 anything from a 3 and 9 team then thats crazy. expect a better team but i can name 10 teams in the SEC who should have a better D than ND.

osu is going to have a great d this year too. and yes the sec is full of teams that should have great defenses this year. i dont see our team getting top ten. not this year anyways. next year i see it with our cb coming back and the depth and talent we will have

I love the Irish as much as the next guy here but I'm not delusional and no way is ND's defense anywhere near being a top 10 defense. It's getting better and that will continue but based on talent alone ND is nowhere near that level. Weis and Co. have been getting some very good players but not the super mega stud difference makers.

I would be stoked in ND landed in the top 25. I don't see them making the top 10.

I dont know if im delusional but that is my opinion. UCLA went from having a team ranked near the bottom of the country to a top ten defensive team only 2 years ago. Again, IF our offense can actually move the ball, which i believe it will with haywood calling the plays, the defense will be amazingly improved, even TOP 10 potential. Plus our schedule this year does not have any amazing powerhouse offenses that we have to worry about except USC and possible Pittsburgh. and the SEC does have alot of great defenses, but they are also going against great SEC offenses.....dont think u can name 10 that will be better than ND.
