Does he really want to be here or is he with us because Ohio St pulled his offer, just wondering if anyone knows first hand?

Many believe that Ohio State pulled his offer when he announced to the staff that he would be committing to Notre Dame. The first word of his commitment to the Irish was reported around the same time Ohio State offered Sam Longo and pulled Watt's offer. FWIW, it sounds like Watt's commitment to us predates Ohio State's decision.

Actually Watt came out and said OSU never pulled his offer. Which i think is important because ND was not a fall-back decision; he chose ND with all the options on the table.

no problem. i thought there was enough info out there to conclude likewise before he announced. i was glad he cleared that up.

Quote:
Chris Watt had many offers on the table, which should be no surprise since he is rated as one of the finest pure offensive linemen in the nation. Watt figures to get his first look for the Irish at guard.

In the end of the process for Watt, the Irish simply offered too much for him to refuse their offer.

“There were so many things to like about Notre Dame. They just offered the best overall package from the obvious academic life to the football life. They are going to be a lot better thus year,” Watt said from his home.

“I still have an offer on the table from Ohio State. I just chose Notre Dame because I liked them the best. I have nothing but respect for Ohio State and their coaching staff, but this had nothing to do with Ohio State and my standing with them. I still had a seat on the bus,” he said.

Jason's explanation makes good sense. There are only a couple of reasons (trouble with law, grades, lack of interest) why any school, in this case Ohio St. would pull an offer extended to a kid rated so highly (#2)

Although, it can be painful for us rabid fans to wait for announcements, I tend to believe that some kids are making their decisions privately, then "seeing how it feels after waking up in the morning". Keeping a decision rather silent for a short period seems intelligent and mature to me.

Welcome to ND Chris!
