Brewster taps Cretin-D.H. pipeline
CHARLEY WALTERS

New Gophers football coach Tim Brewster on Thursday offered tenders to three Cretin-Derham Hall juniors who last week made unofficial campus visits. They are quarterback John Nance, offensive tackle Joe Schafer and running back-defensive back Shady Salamon.

Cretin-Derham Hall wideout Michael Floyd, the star of Minnesota's prep class, already had been offered a tender by former Gophers coach Glen Mason.

Six Minnesota high school juniors are believed to have been offered football tenders by the Gophers. The others are defensive lineman Willie Mobley of Eden Prairie and linebacker Sam Maresh of Champlin Park.

In past years, Notre Dame has had success recruiting Cretin-Derham Hall players. Brewster's early-offer strategy might pay off. Floyd, Nance, Schafer and Salamon are close friends and might want to remain together in college.

Meanwhile, Brewster's quarterback son, Clint, said he's nearly 100 percent committed to Illinois. His father, though, still is trying to persuade him to come to Minnesota.

"Right now I'm going to Illinois," Clint said Thursday from Denver, Colo., where he is a senior at Mullen High. "My decision has been made since last summer. My dad is recruiting me like any other prospect. He says it (Minnesota) is a better situation for me, the school, the campus, how nice it is.

"There's not too much he can say, though. I've been living with him my whole life, and I think it's just time for us to part ways."

Hopefully that holds true with his younger son Nolan ('08 S) too, and that Charlie will be able to hold off Brewster's charge for Floyd.

Well he is already trying to get into CD. I still believe that it is going to take awhile to change that program from a run dominate to a successfully balanced team.

Apparently a change of heart for young Clint. Being reported on Scout that he will decommit from Ill and sign with Minn. Good news that Zook loses a player!!! But, will it give Minn a bigger advantage with his brother next year??

Mr. Floyd now that G. Little is not going to be playing WR for us in the coming years, that is one less guy you have to compete with for playing time. I am pretty sure you can come in and start at WR for ND if you choose to come here. ND needs Michael Floyd

Sounds like the Brewsters have a really warm relationship.

Hopefully Floyd doesn't make the same mistake as some unmentioned WR recruits this year.
