I gotta say Filer should be our #1 target next year. He is very important. He would step right in and start for us from day 1.

He's very good but I highly doubt that.

Getting a couple of elite LB's and a couple good one's is one if not the highest priority as is getting atleast one elite DT along with another 1 or 2 good ones. The OL is next important followed by CB's and RB's.

I've heard that several places too, and the ND plane went to Min/St. Paul today as Charlie was making his rounds visiting recruits. In the past few days the plane has also been in VA checking on Nuss, in Pittsburg, I'm guessing this was for Steve Paskorz, and Nebraska.

State's coaches, top players say it's all about recruiting

By Roman Augustoviz, Star Tribune
Last update: January 16, 2007 – 10:22 PM

Tim Brewster's recruiting skills will ultimately determine his success as Gophers football coach, said Minnesota high school coaches contacted Tuesday.
And even though Brewster comes with a strong reputation as a recruiter, he faces a tough challenge.

"Here's this poor guy who just got hired, and everybody's trampling all over his turf," Cretin-Derham Hall coach Mike Scanlan said. "I've read he is a pretty good recruiter and that's what that job is all about. There are plenty of good coaches, [but] if you do not get the players, you will not do very well."

Notre Dame coach Charlie Weis and Rob Ianello, the Irish recruiting coordinator, were in St. Paul on Tuesday to have lunch with Scanlan and watch the Raiders' home basketball game with Hastings last night.

Junior Michael Floyd, one of the nation's most sought-after wide receivers, plays for the basketball team.

Dick Tressel, an Ohio State assistant coach, and Wyoming head coach Joe Glenn also were there.

Floyd has scholarship offers from Minnesota, Notre Dame, Ohio State and four other colleges. Two of Floyd's basketball teammates, juniors John Nance and Joe Schafer, are also Division I football prospects.

Brewster's selection surprised state high school coaches as well as in-state recruits, but they also expressed faith and hope.

"I never heard of him," said Eden Prairie coach Mike Grant, whose Eagles won the Class 5A title last fall. "But you either have to have faith in Joel Maturi or you don't. And I like [Maturi] a lot. I don't think he drew a name out of a hat."

Grant said it will take three seasons to judge Brewster's hiring: "Either people will say Joel is a genius, or people will ask, 'Where did you drag this guy up from?' "

Osseo offensive lineman Chris Bunders, one of nine Minnesotans who have committed to the Gophers, said he was just happy the U finally named a coach.

"I really wanted to see who the coach would be before the signing date," said Bunders, referring to Feb. 7. "[Brewster] has good credentials as an NFL and college coach. I'm excited to meet and talk with him."

Right now, Brewster is only a name Bunders has read a few times in the newspapers: "I don't know every coach in the NFL and in college -- it would be scary if I did. I'm sure he is qualified."

Maple Grove offensive lineman Ryan Wynn, another Gophers recruit, is pleased by what he's heard about his new coach.

"[Brewster] is young, charismatic and will help the Gophers compete at the highest levels," Wynn said.

"Running backs Darrell Scott, 3,194 yards and 44 TDs at Moorpark (Calif.) "

3,000+ yards?? That's crazy! I didn't see a profile on him, is ND looking at this guy? I would hope so if he was mentioned in the USA Today article noting all the other top national recruits for '08.
