I think you are right, but my feeling, and it's only my feeling, is that Crist would not go along with all the Poodle BS, and not waste the time of other schools if he was definitely going to USC. Crist has not been to ND yet, and I do not see him giving USC any kind of committment, silent or otherwise, until he at least makes the visit. It just does not seem to be Crist's style to do otherwise. He may have indicated to USC that they are his preference at this time, and may come to ND just to eliminate the Irish as a choice, but if he shows up on Wednesday, IMO there is as of yet no "silent commit" to USC. The whole silent commit business is all BS anyway, what does it really mean? That is why CW doesn't want them anymore, and is rumored to have already turned down at least 2 recruits who tried to offer them. Case in point on just how silly the silent commit is. Habern on his Rivals video said that he silently committed to Oklahoma last month, but Stoops acted like he was surprised when Habern gave him his verbal this week. I guess Habern's commit last month was so silent that even Stoops did not hear him. | |

| Walk-On | I agree with IUB, I think it would be nuts for a kid to pay his own way for himself and his family to make an unofficial to ND if he wasn't serious about it. That costs a pretty penny I'm guessing between airfare, hotel, and food so I believe he has genuine interest and is not silently committed to anyone right now. We'll know for sure in the next couple of days when he's supposed to be here. |

| Junior | There is no reason not to take a QB this year. Why leave a 1 year gap at the most critical position on the field that can hurt you down the road. Crist has indicated a willingness to take 5 years to use up his 4 years of eligibilty, which means that even if JC becomes the starter this year, and starts for the next 4 years, Crist, if he is good enough, would be in position to be the ND starting QB for the entire 3rd & 4th year of his eligibility. |

| Blue Chip Recruit | According to Scout article today (free), Dayne Crist will be deciding in the next few weeks. He claims no favorite, but says the 5 teams that he will choose from are: ND/USC/Stanford/LSU/Michigan Only school that he hasn't visited is Michigan. The article cites positives about all of the schools except LSU (but that could be an editing thing). 3 top decision drivers: -Academics -Working with a coach who will help him develop -Being around great players Hopefully A Mac can convince him of the ND merits over the next couple of weeks..... |
