Back to the issue at hand.....

LA Daily News - Birmingham's Knox set to visit Notre Dame
Quote:
With one week remaining before national signing day, the biggest local question is where Milton Knox will play college football.

A few months ago, it wasn't really a question. Knox had verbally committed to UCLA and seemed destined to wind up in Westwood. But when the Bruins fired coach Karl Dorrell, Knox decided he wanted to take a deeper look at the other schools showing interest.

The City Section's all-time leading rusher and scorer from Birmingham High of Lake Balboa has never said he won't honor his pledge to the Bruins, but he made it clear he will explore all of his options.

Last month, Knox visited Florida, and this week he's scheduled to embark on an official visit to Notre Dame. The storied university in South Bend, Ind., happens to be the place where quarterback Dayne Crist, one of Knox's best friends, has committed after a stellar prep career at Notre Dame of Sherman Oaks.

Crist and Crespi of Encino tight end Joseph Fauria, who also has committed to Notre Dame and is in the same social circle, are pushing Knox hard to join them with the Irish, and the running back is expected to announce his decision Feb. 6 on national signing day.

"Am I recruiting Milton Knox? You'd have to be crazy to think I'm not," Crist said. "But this really goes past recruiting because he is one of my best friends."

There was a time Knox wasn't expected to qualify academically for Notre Dame, but he recently scored high enough on his

ACT to be eligible to play for the Irish, and that opened the door.
"We're real proud of Milton for passing the test. Now Notre Dame has a real legitimate shot," Crist said. "I think he'd fit in perfectly with coach (Charlie) Weis' system."

Crist and Fauria have taken their official visits to Notre Dame, and Knox hasn't; once he has, that might be the difference, both agree.

"It's quite an impact to feel what the campus is like. It's not what you'd expect," Crist said. "You've got to feel it to understand it."

Fauria, a tight end, took his visit two weekends ago and said he already misses the place. He has been text messaging Knox since his return.

"Going through the tunnel was amazing. I can't wait to do it with full pads on," Fauria said. "I mean, of course it's part of my responsibility to try to get Milton to come to Notre Dame. Who wouldn't? Think about it: He's Milton Knox."

The Patrick Johnson thing was well deserved from what I understand. I've heard his score went from a 13 to a 26.
